ETERNAL SUNSHINE
by ARIANA GRANDE
Ariana Grande's seventh studio album, and first in nearly four years, was released March 8 via Republic Records. If the fierce strut of handbag house lead single yes, and? is anything to go by, Ari's return to the dancefloor is guaranteed thanks to a full-scale reunion with producers Max Martin and ILYA, whom she hasn't worked with since 2019's thank u, next.
It takes its name from Michel Gondry's 2004 film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds, starring Jim Carrey, which in turn was inspired by a line from Alexander Pope's poem Eloisa to Abelard. Essentially, its title is an extended metaphor about memory; that you can wipe your mind of all the pain, sorrow and heartbreak, where you enter a blissful state...the titular eternal sunshine.
Eternal Sunshine landed straight in at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart on 15 March 2024, delivering a fifth UK Number 1 album for Ariana in her career, which drew her level with the likes of chart icons such as Celine Dion, Prince and Green Day.
